CAR No. 24 Overall Pick: Maryland WR, D.J. Moore

The Carolina Panthers traded away wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin to the Buffalo Bills last year. Devin Funchess is a perfect replacement for him in the lineup given their similarities. However, adding more weapons for Cam Newton is still a big need in Carolina.

Running back Christian McCaffrey was selected in the first round and wide receiver Curtis Samuel was selected last season. This year, the Panthers will add another playmaker, selecting Maryland wide receiver, D.J. Moore, with the No. 24 overall pick.

Moore exploded onto the scene in his third season at Maryland. More than half of Moore’s receptions and yardage in his career came in his junior season. Moore caught 80 passes for 1,033 yards and eight touchdowns last season. In his career, Moore had 146 receptions for 2,027 and 17 touchdowns. He even added a little something as a rusher, gaining 125 yards on 17 carries in his career with one touchdown.

Moore is a technically sound receiver with great route-running ability. He won’t blow by defenders with top-end speed, but he is competitive on contested passes and has the agility and quickness to make the first defender miss.

At 6-feet tall, Moore isn’t the biggest receiver. However, he more than makes up for it with his football IQ and competitiveness. He would be a good addition to a Panthers offense that has a lid lifter in Torrey Smith, a big receiver in Funchess and versatile players in McCaffrey and Samuel.
