GB No. 14 Overall Pick: UTSA DE, Marcus Davenport

The Green Bay Packers defense needs a lot of work. The signed of Muhammad Wilkerson in free agency will help, but they still need some more playmakers on that side of the ball. As a result, they select UTSA defensive end, Marcus Davenport, with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Davenport would help fill the pass-rushing void in Green Bay. While some people will be scared off by his level of competition in Conference-USA, the tape does not lie. Davenport gets the job done and is disruptive in opponent’s backfields.

Davenport is a workhorse, playing a high number of snaps and showing a consistent motor. Davenport finished his collegiate career with 185 total tackles, 37.5 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, eight passes defended, two fumble recoveries, six forced fumbles and one touchdown.

Those statistics are impressive, and getting with the right coaching staff could help him further develop as a pass rusher. His speed and size combination is one that many coaches would love to get their hands on.

There are some reports that Davenport suffers from anxiety issues, which leads to some self-doubt. It is something that his NFL team will need to be conscientious of.
