New England Patriots Free Agency: What’s Next?
By Hal Bent
TE Asante Cleveland, TE Martellus Bennett and TE Eric Ebron
Asante Cleveland had a cup of coffee in New England in 2015 before being released. He spent all of 2017 on injured reserve and is likely nothing more than a camp body. Bennett was already released by New England and may retire. More likely, he will latch on with the Eagles to spend his final year in the NFL with his brother.
Ebron is fascinating as he was the tenth overall draft pick in 2014 and oozes athleticism and talent. He is scheduled to visit Foxboro on Sunday after going to Carolina and Indianapolis. Only 24-years old, he would be a solid complement to Gronkowski. Ebron would have less pressure and may pick up some good training and on-field habits from the perennial All-Pro tight end. However, it is most likely that Ebron will not get to Foxboro with a trip to tight end needy Indianapolis earlier in the weekend.
