New England Patriots officially lose Josh McDaniels to Indianapolis Colts
By Nick Ziegler
After losing Super Bowl 52, the New England Patriots have now officially lost both of their coordinators.
It has certainly bee a difficult few days for the New England Patriots. On Sunday, the Patriots were bested by the Eagles, and now they have to deal with the fallout from that game. On Monday, the Detroit Lions officially announced that Matt Patricia will be their new head coach.
For Patricia, this will be his first chance to be a head coach in the NFL. After years of doing a good job with the Patriots’ defense, he will be looking to establish a winning culture in Detroit.
As expected, Josh McDaniels was announced as the new head coach of the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, as he will be looking to redeem himself as a head coach after failing with the Broncos.
For McDaniels, the Colts are certainly an interesting team to take over. Finding a franchise quarterback in the NFL is arguably the most difficult thing to do. Likely one of the main reasons why McDaniels took the job with the Colts is because of Andrew Luck.
Even though Luck missed the entire 2017 season, he is still one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. For a head coach, having an established quarterback in place like Luck is certainly a huge bonus. While there are some concerns about Luck’s health, McDaniels must have confidence that he will be ready for next season.
In addition to having Luck, McDaniels will also have one of the top picks in the draft at his disposal. The down season for the Colts without Luck has given them one of the top picks in the NFL Draft, and they will be able to select a player that should help them right away.

For New England, the loss of both McDaniels and Patricia is one that can’t be understated. Both have been extremely good at their jobs the past few years, and replacing two of the best coordinators in the league will be difficult.
