New England Patriots: Tom Brady takes home MVP award
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been named NFL MVP for the 2017 regular season.
The New England Patriots are set to face off with the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII this evening. It is a rematch of Super Bowl XXIX when the Patriots defeated the Eagles 24-21.
New England will be looking to take home their second consecutive Super Bowl after an improbable comeback last year against the Atlanta Falcons. Getting another ring is the ultimate goal for the team, however one player on the team already has some hardware for this season.
Quarterback Tom Brady won the NFL MVP Award for the 2017 season. It is the third time that Brady has won the award in his career, but this is arguably his most impressive season that he has won the award.
While his statistics aren’t as gaudy as when he won the award in 2007 and 2010, he was in the prime of his career at the time. This year he became the oldest player to win the award at 40-years old.
Despite his age, Brady still led the league with 4,577 yards. He completed 66.3 percent of his passes and threw for 32 touchdowns compared to only eight interceptions.
The Patriots shared a message from Brady on their official Twitter account.
Since the Patriots are prepping for the Super Bowl against the Eagles, Brady was unable to be at the NFL Honors award ceremony. Instead, wide receiver Julian Edelman accepted the award on Brady’s behalf.

Brady won the award in a landslide. He received 40 votes, while Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley received eight. Injured Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz was third with two votes.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick spoke highly of Brady leading up to the Super Bowl.
"“There’s no quarterback I’d rather have on my team than Tom Brady. I’m glad I have him.”"
In addition to the MVP Award, Brady was also voted first-team All-Pro. It was a historic season for Brady, who also become the oldest quarterback to start in a Super Bowl and was the oldest quarterback to ever lead the league in passing.
