Jimmy G Contract Offer

The Patriots certainly tried to extend backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, but never made an offer, like the ESPN article explains.

"The Patriots repeatedly offered Garoppolo four-year contract extensions, in the $17 million to $18 million range annually that would go higher if and when he succeeded Brady. Garoppolo and Yee rejected the offers out of hand, for reasons that remain unclear…”"

Belichick and co. certainly knew Garoppolo was special, but couldn’t assure he would start with Brady still playing at an MVP level. But the report of an offer being made in the “$17 million to $18 million range” was never previously reported and proves to not be true, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald and Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston.

Garoppolo, and Brady’s, agent, Don Yee, even released a comment after the article.

"“I don’t really know what to say – it’s tough to have a response since it didn’t appear to me to have one on-the-record quote. All I can suggest is don’t believe everything you read.”"
