New England Patriots: Stopping Tyrod Taylor will be a big challenge
By Nick Ziegler
In Week 13, the New England Patriots will be playing the Buffalo Bills. For the Patriots, stopping Tyrod Taylor will be a big challenge.
Heading into Week 13, the New England Patriots are one of the hottest teams in the NFL. After beating the Dolphins rather easily on Sunday, the Patriots will be turning their attention to the Buffalo Bills.
Despite being in a bit of a rebuilding mode, the Bills are right in the mix for a Wild Card spot. Two weeks ago, the Bills made the shocking decision to start Nathan Peterman over Tyrod Taylor at quarterback.
Peterman had one of the worst NFL debuts in the history of the league, as the Los Angeles Chargers are still probably catching some of his passes. After the dreadful debut, the Bills went back to Taylor last week against the Chiefs. Taylor was able to help lead the Bills to a big road victory, and there is no denying that he should be the quarterback for the Bills for the rest of the season.
With the Patriots heading to Buffalo in Week 13, head coach Bill Belichick is well-aware of the problems that Taylor can cause.
"“Big challenge. Huge challenge,” Belichick said to Kevin Dillon of MassLive.com. “That guy’s really a good football player. Really competitive, smart, tough, he’s got a good feel for the pocket, he’s obviously very athletic, hard to tackle, hard to contain, fast, he’s quick, he’s got good balance, he’s a good football player. He’s like I said a very competitive guy, so in critical situations, he makes a lot of the right decisions and he does a lot of the right things.”"
Having a dual-threat quarterback like Taylor can be a nightmare for a defense. Making sure defensive lineman and linebackers stay in their rush lanes will be key. If the Patriots get too aggressive off the edge, Taylor is certainly capable of making them pay with runs.
So far this season, Taylor has totaled 2,025 passing yards, 12 passing touchdowns, and just three interceptions. On the ground, Taylor has totaled 302 rushing yards with three rushing touchdowns.

Due to Taylor’s ability to hurt defenses both through the air and on the ground, stopping him can be a challenging task. Despite the Patriots being on a roll, this could be a very tricky game for them on the road. However, if the Patriots are able to contain Taylor, they should be in a good position to leave Buffalo with a win.
