New England Patriots place Martellus Bennett on injured reserve

Recent New England Patriots news is that recently acquired tight end Martellus Bennett will be placed on injured reserve.
After winning yet again on Sunday, the New England Patriots did have some unfortunate injury news, as tight end Martellus Bennett was placed on injured reserve.
In a strange turn of events a few weeks ago, the Patriots were able to acquire Bennett after he was cut by the Packers, who used a failure to disclose a medical condition tag on Bennett. After some fighting with the Packers, Bennett joined the Patriots shortly after.
After playing in two games with the Patriots, Bennett was inactive on Sunday in the win over the Dolphins. On Monday, the Patriots placed him on injured reserve, as he apparently has a hamstring injury in addition to the shoulder that resulted in him leaving Green Bay.
In his one full season with the Patriots, Bennett did a great job filling in for the injured Rob Gronkowski last season. That great season resulted in him landing a nice contract with the Packers, but he never really got off the ground with them.
Coming back to New England made sense for Bennett, as he is comfortable in the offense, and certainly could have provided another weapon for the offense. Unfortunately, Bennett’s second trip with the Patriots will only be for two games.
Now, the Patriots will likely turn back more to Dwayne Allen, who has actually been playing better in recent weeks. After going without a catch for most of the season, Allen has now recorded at least one reception in three straight games.

Due to the injuries at wide receiver, having Bennett did give the Patriots another talented weapon who could add some versatility to their offense. For the Patriots, they likely knew Bennett’s injury could resurface at any time, as it was a very low-risk, high-reward move to bring him back. Hopefully, Bennett’s recovery goes well for his future well-being.
