We hand out some midseason awards for the New England Patriots.

We hand out some midseason awards for the New England Patriots as they are halfway through the 2017 regular season.

The New England Patriots are officially through their Week 9 bye with a 6-2 record. The team now prepares to travel to Denver to face to the struggling Broncos on Sunday Night.

With eight games in the rearview mirror, here are the Patriots midseason awards:

MVP: Tom Brady

Even at 40-years-old, Brady is playing some of his best football of his career. His play has been so elite the Patriots believe he can sustain this level of success for the next few years, leading to the trade of backup Jimmy Garoppolo.

Brady has just two interceptions in eight games and ranks first in the league with 2,541 passing yards. He also ranks second in the league in passer rating, fourth in yards per attempt and fifth in completion percentage and touchdown passes. Brady certainly has been the teams best player this season and deserves to be in the league running for MVP as well.

Offensive Player of the Half: Rob Gronkowski

The Patriots offense has been extremely balanced this season. Five different players have over 30 receptions and 300 receiving yards. But Gronk has continued to produce week after week and only has missed one game. He’s on pace for 73 catches for 1,091 yards with 11 touchdowns.

Defensive Player of the Half: Trey Flowers

Plenty of players deserve this award, such as Devin McCourty or Kyle Van Noy. In season two, Flowers has seen a huge increase in his workload and has shown he can handle it.

Flowers has only recorded 3.5 sacks this season, but already has surpassed his career high in tackles, fumbles forced and passes deflected. He is also the team leader for total pressures, even though he is usually matched up against the oppositions best tackle. Flowers has also been consistent in the run game and is dropped into coverage in 10 percent of passing snaps.

Rookie of the Half: Deatrich Wise

Wise and Adam Butler are the only two real candidates for this award, as New England has an extremely thin rookie class.

Wise is tied for the team lead in quarterback hits with 13, second on the club with 25 quarterback pressures and ranks third with three sacks.

Most Improved: Kyle Van Noy

Van Noy has become one of the Patriots core defenders this season, especially with the loss of captain Dont’a Hightower. Van Noy rarely leaves the field and is productive in both the run and pass game.

He is second on the team with 55 total tackles and is tied for the team lead with 3.5 sacks.

Biggest Disappointment: Dwayne Allen

Stephon Gillmore and Alan Branch are also in the running but Allen has been a no-show in the entire passing game. Allen, who has a $5 million cap hit has yet to record a catch for his new club.

Biggest Surprise: Johnson Bademosi

When Bademosi was acquired in a preseason trade, his role was viewed as strictly a special teamer. After injuries to starting cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore and Eric Rowe, Bademosi was forced into three straight starts.

He put together two of the best games by any Patriots cornerback all season in Weeks 6 and 7 and has earned the right to more playing time even after everyone is healthy.
