New England Patriots Rumors: Cornerback Stephon Gilmore looks like he is ready to return to the field this week against the Denver Broncos.

Recent New England Patriots rumors involve injury news. For the first time in a while, the Patriots have received some positive news in regard to some injuries.

According to Mike Reiss of NFL Nation and ESPN Boston, the Patriots secondary could be getting a boost this week. Cornerback Stephon Gilmore, says he should be good to go this weekend against the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football.

Reiss shared the update on his Twitter account with a photo of Gilmore in the locker room.

Gilmore was a big free agent signing for the Patriots this offseason. New England signed him away from their AFC East rival Buffalo Bills in what was a great offseason for the Patriots. However, Gilmore’s tenure with the Patriots got off to a rocky start.

New England has struggled mightily to defend the pass throughout the season. A lot of blame was placed on Gilmore, but he was far from the only problem in the Patriots secondary. New England surrendered at least 300 yards passing the first six games of the season, so there was a lot of blame to be placed.

However, they have begun to turn things around in recent weeks. Matt Ryan and Philip Rivers were both unable to surpass 300 yards passing. Weather could have played a part in their struggles, but the Patriots defense is taking steps forward.

Coincidentally, Gilmore has not been on the field for the turnaround. Gilmore has not played since Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gilmore suffered a concussion in that game and was also dealing with an ankle injury. As a result, he missed the past three games.

With the extra rest provided with the bye week, Gilmore looks ready to return to the Patriots lineup. The question is, how much will he play?

Head coach Bill Belichick does not care how much a player is being paid. All he cares about is producing on the field. Johnson Bademosi and Jonathan Jones have played very well in Gilmore’s absence. They have earned more playing time, so Gilmore could have to earn back his starting spot and playing time
