New England Patriots vs Atlanta Falcons: 6 players to watch for
Falcons Linebacker, Vic Beasley Jr.
Protecting Tom Brady has been a struggle for the Patriots offensive line all season. Brady had already been sacked more this season through five games than he was all of 2016 when he played 12.
While Brady was not sacked by the Jets last week, he was still hit 10 times; a number that is way too high for any quarterback, let alone one that is 40-years old with a sprained AC Joint in his left shoulder. Keeping Brady upright will be imperative for the Patriots success. If they are going to accomplish that, keeping tabs on Vic Beasley Jr. will be important.
Beasley Jr. has been dealing with a hamstring injury that sidelined him for two games. Prior to going down with the injury, Beasley Jr. had already recorded a sack in each of the Falcons first two games. Unfortunately for the Patriots, he returned to the field last week against the Dolphins and will be closer to full strength this week.
Beasley is one of the most daunting pass rushers in the NFL. Last season he recorded 15.5 sacks and forced six fumbles. He is a difference maker as a pass rusher from the linebacker spot and someone the Patriots need to pay attention to.
Beasley getting back on the field against the Dolphins gave him a chance to knock off some rust. Slowing Beasley Jr. down is difficult enough when your offensive line is clicking; that is not the case for the Patriots, although they have looked better recently. If the Patriots do not key in on Beasley Jr., he could single-handedly ruin their offensive game plan.
