Jets Running Back, Elijah McGuire

Many people will see this name and wonder who it is. McGuire is a rookie running back whom the Jets selected in the sixth round, No. 188 overall. He hasn’t received too many opportunities yet, but Week 6 against the Patriots could be his coming out party.

Two weeks ago against the Jacksonville Jaguars McGuire made his first appearance in fantasy football circles. McGuire had 10 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown, adding two receptions for 38 yards. He followed it up with a dud against the Browns, rushing for only 20 yards, adding 10 receiving yards. The encouraging thing was that he set a career-high for touches, receiving 11 carries and two receptions.

That is what makes McGuire someone to target in fantasy football this week. His usage is trending up, and the Jets are dealing with injuries in their backfield. Bilal Powell is dealing with a calf injury and may not suit up. Matt Forte returned to practice on a limited basis after missing the past two games.

A potentially massive workload could be waiting for McGuire this week. He was lauded for his receiving ability coming out of college, which will come in handy in what could be a high scoring game against the Patriots.

New England has struggled against the run this season. Kareem Hunt torched them in the season opener and that has set the tone for the Patriots thus far this season. New England is surrendering 5.0 yards per carry and 124.2 yards per game. That makes McGuire a potentially great play this week.
