Check out some of our winners and losers for the New England Patriots from their Week 5 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The New England Patriots were able to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football this week. The 19-14 victory was far from their best performance of the season, but a win’s a win.

Getting back into the win column was important for New England. They lost in Week 4 to the Carolina Panthers at Foxboro, which was on the heels of a come from behind victory against rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans. Now, the Patriots will have 10 days to rest and prepare for the New York Jets in Week 6 and they will use every minute of it.

The Patriots offense was delivered a big blow less than three hours prior to kickoff when star tight end Rob Gronkowski was announced out. It made for a change in game plan, something head coach Bill Belichick praised offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels for.

Without Gronkowski, the offense stumbled out of the gates, which is to be expected. They would get things going once the second quarter rolled around, as Tom Brady completed 13 consecutive passes between the second and third quarter.

The defense was the biggest surprise. There is still a lot of work to do on that side of the ball, but they did enough to get the job done Thursday. A lot of the stats that Jameis Winston racked up was due to the game script, as the Buccaneers abandoned the run for a majority of the second half. The Patriots have to be happy that the Buccaneers stopped running the ball, as they had no answer for the reinstated Doug Martin.

The victory was good to get, but the Patriots played a pretty sloppy game at times. There were a ton of penalties and dumb play, which is a rare thing to see a Patriots team do. However, there were a number of people who stepped up to help get the victory and some that fell short.
