TAMPA, FL – OCTOBER 5: Running back Dion Lewis /

– Dion Lewis gets involved

One of the big takeaways from the Patriots’ win against the Buccaneers was that we saw Dion Lewis really involved in the offense. For the first few weeks of the season, the Patriots didn’t use Lewis much.

Lewis let the media know how he felt about his role, and he certainly made the most of the opportunities given to him on Thursday. In the win, Lewis was the Patriots’ leading rusher with 53 yards on the ground. A big chunk of that came on a 31-yard rush early in the game. Overall, Lewis totaled 53 rushing yards on seven carries.

In addition to the solid day on the ground, Lewis also totaled two receptions for 10 receiving yards. This was certainly the most that we have seen from Lewis so far this season, and his performance indicates that we likely will see him more involved in the offense moving forward.

With Rex Burkhead likely to return against the Jets next week, it will be interesting to see how the Patriots manage all of their running backs in the weeks to come.
