New England Patriots: 4 player grades from Preseason Week 2
According to Pats Pulpit, undrafted rookie Harvey Langi finished Saturday’s bout with 49 snaps, the most of New England’s entire defense. With defensive ends Trey Flowers and Deatrich Wise sitting out, an abundance of those snaps saw the linebacker work as a pass rusher off the edge.
Langi was consistently in the Texans’ backfield, logging four quarterback hurries, per Doug Kyed. With that being said, the rookie looked very raw rushing the passer, often overshooting and running past the quarterback.
Of all the Patriots’ undrafted free agent signees, Langi has the best chance of sticking with the team. New England appears to be molding him into a player similar to linebacker, Dont’a Hightower. Someone who can drop into coverage as well as rush the passer off the edge.
With his excess of playing time on Saturday, it’s becoming more apparent that Langi is in the Patriots’ plans going forward.
