New England Patriots: Tom Brady has not lost any arm strength
By Nick Ziegler
After coming off of his fifth Super Bowl win, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is looking to defeat father time.
Entering the 2017 season, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will be 40-years-old. While most athletes have either began to see their skills slip or have retired at that age, Brady keeps going strong.
In 2016, Brady was able to set an NFL record for having the best touchdown to interception ratio in a single season. If not for being suspended the first four games of the season, Brady could have very well have won an NFL MVP award in the regular season.
As Brady enters his 17th season, there has to surely be some concern about his body his holding up. At 39-years-old, arm strength is something that will constantly be monitored.
Recently, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com talked about how Brady looked as he closes in on his 40th birthday. Here’s what he had to say.
"If an onlooker closed his or her eyes and was told these practices were taking place in 2007, there wouldn’t have been any reason to question it based on Brady’s work. He looks the same as he has over the course of most of his career, which is a credit to his year-long dedication to his craft. His arm strength, in particular, is still there."
Seeing that Brady’s arm strength is still there is very important for the Patriots. If there is any concern about Brady starting to slip, it will likely start when we see his arm strength fade.
With plenty of weapons surrounding him this season, Brady will be able to mix deep throws to Brandin Cooks with passes underneath to Julian Edelman. Add in Rob Gronkowski up the seam, and Brady could be poised for his best season yet in 2017.
