New England signed Gillislee, a restricted free agent, to a two-year deal just ahead of the draft. As compensation, Buffalo received the 163rd overall pick in the 2017 draft from the Patriots.

The fifth-round selection of the Miami Dolphins in 2013 will enter his fifth season in the NFL.

Gillislee helped contribute to the Bills’ league-best rushing attack in 2015 and 2016. Last season, Gillislee posted 577 yards and eight touchdowns including 115 yards and a touchdown in two games against the Patriots.

According to the team site, Gillislee measures in at 5-foot-11, 219 pounds, around the same size as Marshawn Lynch coming out of California in 2007. His size and lack of injury history prove Gillislee is durable enough to warrant the role of a feature back in New England.

If the Patriots lose LeGarrette Blount, Mike Gillislee could be a viable replacement.
