Rumors emerged earlier this offseason that future Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis could return to Foxborough in 2017. CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora was told by a personnel man from one team:

"“We did our work on him. He can still play. He can cover. He doesn’t have that long speed anymore; he’s not going to cover a No. 1 receiver deep. But he can cover in tight spaces and he has great instincts. The film is not as bad as some would have you believe. He’s a perfect fit in that quarters scheme Belichick runs, and they have the kind of safeties who can help him out, too. We’re convinced he’s going back to New England. It just makes too much sense.”"

Revis earned All-Pro honors during the New England’s 2014 Super Bowl run.

In 2016, Revis posted 43 tackles, five passes defended and one interception.

The last time Patriots fans saw Revis in a New England uniform, he was celebrating his first Super Bowl win. Although the trio of Butler, Gilmore and Revis looks good on paper, there’s little belief he’s the same player he was two seasons ago. That being said, if any coach is capable of finding a role for Revis, it’s Bill Belichick.
