With the 2017 NFL Draft in the rear-view mirror, the attention of football fans shifts to upcoming organized team activities and training camp. Will the New England Patriots add any veteran free agents for the summer?

The New England Patriots officially start their OTAs in two weeks. Between now and then, the team will look to add depth to the positions they were not able to address in the NFL Draft.

A year ago, New England added WR Nate Washington, RB Donald BrownDB E.J. Biggers, and defensive tackles Terrance Knighton and Markus Kuhn. But none of them made the 53-man roster for the Patriots.

Like undrafted free agents, these additions usually face long odds at earning a job come Week 1. However, they light a fire under players on the bubble and create competition within position groups. Fortunately for some players, even if they don’t make the cut, an impressive camp performance may warrant them a phone call if a team loses a player to injury mid-season.
