The New England Patriots are early favorites to win Super Bowl 52. However, how many wins do bettors think they’ll have in the regular season?

Another impressive list of NFL Draft picks by the New England Patriots has only enhanced the public’s view of the defending Super Bowl champions. At least the betting public.

According to ESPN Chalk’s David Purdum, the opening win total for the Patriots almost immediately changed in Las Vegas. This after many bet New England over 11 wins at the South Point Hotel Casino sportsbook in Vegas on Sunday.

Win totals are among the most popular futures to wager on. They involve betting over or under the number of games you think a team will win during the regular season. A sportsbook sets that number, or total, before the season kicks off.

In addition, the Patriots also became one of the first early plays of VSiN Senior Editor Matt Youmans, who covers NFL betting for the recently launched Vegas Sports & Information Network. VSiN calls the South Point home and features broadcasting legend Brent Musburger. Youmans noted that New England has topped 11 wins in each of the previous seven seasons.

Early re-action

Purdum reported that the win total for the Patriots was quickly adjusted to 11.5 by South Point sportsbook director Chris Andrews after he became the first in Vegas to release the numbers. Based on that early action, bettors can expect other sportsbooks around town to open at 11.5 in the near future.

Now the big question is, will New England reward its backers by again winning at least 12 games? Looking at comments that follow the team’s schedule on NFL.com, many fans seem to think 12 wins are a lock with another 16-0 a real possibility too.
