The New England Patriots finally got involved in the 2017 NFL Draft on Friday night. What picks do they have for Saturday afternoon?

After a quiet first two rounds of the NFL Draft, the New England Patriots made quite the splash on Friday night.

In the third round, the Patriots traded down with their first pick in the draft in typical Patriots fashion. In a deal with the Tennessee Titans, the Patriots moved back in the third round and acquired the Titans’ third and fourth round picks for the 72nd overall pick and their sixth round pick.

With the 83rd overall pick, the Patriots ended up taking defensive end Derek Rivers from Youngstown. Young should help provide the Patriots with a young pass rusher, which was certainly a position of need.

Shortly after the Patriots drafted Rivers, they traded back up to select offensive tackle, Antonio Garcia. Even though the Patriots are set at tackle, for now, getting Garcia adds depth and also insurance for the Patriots.

After making two picks in the third round, the Patriots will have three more picks heading into the final day of the day.

Patriots Picks:

4th Round: 131st overall

5th Round: 183rd overall

7th Round: 239th overall

The Patriots did well getting two talented players in the third round. However, they still have some needs. Due to the uncertainty at cornerback in the near future, that might be where the Patriots go with either their fourth or fifth round picks.

After a strong free agency, it has been a strong start to the draft for the New England Patriots. After seeing how active the Patriots were in the third round, expect to see more of the same on Saturday afternoon. Due to this being a deep draft class, there is still certainly talent that can be taken on day three.
