As the 2017 Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots attend the White House, they will do so without their star quarterback Tom Brady.

As the Super Bowl Champions, the New England Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady were invited to the White House to celebrate their win.

The win against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI was arguably the best of the five championships for the Patriots. They were able to comeback after trailing 28-3 in the third quarter, and complete one of the best comebacks in sports history.

As all sports team do, the Patriots will have the honor of going to the White House to meet the President. However, one player had to miss it last minute.

Brady, Super Bowl LI MVP, was planning on attending the event, until a recent personal issue sprung upon him.

"“In light of some recent developments, I am unable to attend today’s ceremony, as I am attending to some personal family matters,” Brady stated in a statement via Conor Orr of NFL.com. “Thank you to the President for hosting this honorary celebration and for supporting our team for as long as I can remember. Hopefully, if we accomplish the goal of winning a championship in the future years, we will (be) back on the South Lawn again soon.”"

Brady’s mother has battling cancer for most of the season and made a visit from California. Instead of traveling to Washington D.C. he will be spending time with her. Back in 2015, Brady did not attend the White House visit after winning Super Bowl XLIX.

Six other Patriots will not attend the visit due to concerns about President Donald Trump. Brady, along with owner Robert Kraft, are lifelong friends of President Trump. Hopefully, Brady’s mother is doing alright, as her battle with cancer was documented during the Patriots’ quest for a fifth title.
