Recent New England Patriots rumors have been about their interest in Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman.

As we get closer to the NFL Draft, there have been a good amount of New England Patriots rumors.

One of the names to watch as the NFL Draft approaches is cornerback Malcolm Butler. Due to him being a restricted free agent with a first-round tender, Butler leaving New England is a bit unlikely.

Since his interception against the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl, Butler has emerged as a very good cornerback. Butler has yet to be paid like the cornerback he has become, and that has frustrated him.

So far, the New Orleans Saints have been the team most interested in Butler. However, they don’t want to part with a first-round pick in order to acquire him. With that being said, there are other ways to work a deal for the Patriots and the Saints that doesn’t involve a first round pick. With the two sides having recently made a deal for Brandin Cooks, the relationship is a rather good one.

If Butler was to leave, the Patriots have their eyes set on cornerback Richard Sherman as a possible replacement according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald.

Even though Butler is a very good cornerback, Sherman is one of the best in the league, and the Seahawks are willing to listen to offers on him.

The Patriots signed Stephon Gilmore this offseason to a massive deal. Bill Belichick likes to have cornerbacks with size that can get up and play at the line of scrimmage effectively. Sherman can certainly do that in Belichick’s defense.

For the Patriots to truly have an interest in Sherman, something would have to happen with Butler. However, Sherman could be a name to keep an eye on for the Patriots following the 2017 season if Butler leaves next offseason.
