Recent New England Patriots rumors have been about running back Adrian Peterson. Would he take a pay cut to play in New England?

Free agent running back Adrian Peterson would allegedly take a pay cut to play for the New England Patriots, according to the Boston Herald. Peterson is set to become a free agent on Thursday when the new league year begins. The Minnesota Vikings declined his $18 million option.

The 31-year-old running back torn his meniscus in Week 2 last season. The injury ended his season. He finished with just 72 yards on 37 carries in the two games he played.

This is the second significant knee injury that ended Peterson’s season. He tore his ACL and MCL in the 2011 season. However, he returned for the 2012 season and rushed for 2,097 yards. The mark was just nine yards short of the most rushing yards in a season in NFL history.

By signing Peterson to a massive pay cut, the team would not lose much should he re-injure his knee. Plus they would still have Super Bowl LI hero James White, and Dion Lewis.

Peterson signing with the Patriots would benefit both sides. Not only would the Patriots benefit having a stellar running game, but Peterson would more likely than not get what he wants – a Super Bowl ring. The Patriots are already favorites to win Super Bowl LII according to Vegas.

There isn’t much threat in the AFC for New England and they could beat any NFC team that gets in their way in Minnesota. The Patriots are coming off a win in Super Bowl LI last month. They overcame a 28-3 third quarter deficit to beat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime.

The comeback was the third biggest in NFL history and the biggest in Super Bowl history. It was also the first Super Bowl to ever go into overtime. Having Peterson would certainly help them repeat as champions.
