Recent Patriots rumors are that there is a mutual interest between wide receiver Brandon Marshall and the Patriots.

With the offseason underway, there have been a lot of Patriots rumors with free agency nearly here. A few days ago, the New York Jets made the decision to part ways with wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

As the Jets are cleaning out their roster of expensive veterans, Marshall was a casualty of their moves. As a free agent, Marshall will certainly be drawing interest from multiple teams. However, he has a desire to play on a winner due to him not yet playing in a playoff game.

According to Ben Volin, the Patriots and Marshall have a mutual interest in each other.

Last season, Marshall was one of the many players on the Jets to have a down season. In 2016, he totaled 59 receptions, 788 receiving yards, and just three receiving touchdowns. Despite the down season in 2016 for Marshall, he is just one year removed from a monster season with the Jets.

In 2015, Marshall totaled 109 receptions, 1,502 receiving yards, and 14 receiving touchdowns. For the Patriots, there has to be some concern about the poor season for Marshall in 2016. While the Jets did have an awful quarterback situation, it was the worst season in Marshall’s career.

Any potential interest in Marshall would likely have to come at a discounted cost for the Patriots. However, if Marshall wants to win, he would likely be willing to take a big pay cut to join New England.

Even though the Patriots don’t really have a need at wide receiver, Marshall would certainly help. The Patriots’ offense with Marshall, Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, and Malcolm Mitchell would certainly be a scary one.

If Marshall truly wants to win a ring, New England would be a good spot. However, Marshall would have to give up some money and possibly his gig with Showtime.
