New England Patriots: Jimmy Garoppolo Not Rattled by Trade Rumors
By Nick Ziegler
New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been frequently mentioned in trade rumors already this offseason. How is he handling it?
After winning Super Bowl LI, all focus has shifted toward the offseason for the New England Patriots. With some key free agents, the Patriots have some challenges ahead of them this offseason.
One of the tough the decisions that the Patriots will have to make is whether or not to trade Jimmy Garoppolo. Due to the suspension of Tom Brady in the first four games of the season, Garoppolo was given a chance to be the starter for the Patriots.
In his two starts, the Patriots won each game, and Garoppolo played well before getting hurt against the Miami Dolphins. In the NFL, finding a franchise quarterback is the most difficult thing to accomplish. Without one, it is hard to win games.
Due to the value of quarterbacks, the Patriots might be able to get some valuable draft picks in return for Garoppolo if they decided to move him. In a recent interview on Adam Schefter’s podcast, Garoppolo opened up about the trade rumors.
"“For the most part I’m just trying to stay level-headed, try not to overthink it too much,” Garoppolo told Schefter. “Because at the end of the day I’m still under contract. It’s not my decision if I get traded or if I don’t. So you try to take it all in stride.”"
By no means is it a guarantee that the Patriots will trade Garoppolo. Due to the age of Brady, the Patriots have to think about the future. However, the value of Garoppolo right now won’t get much higher.
