Recent New England Patriots rumors have been about the contract status of Danny Amendola. Will the wide receiver be back next season?

With the NFL offseason here, there have been plenty of New England Patriots rumors about what their offseason plan is.

One of the heroes of the Super Bowl, wide receiver Danny Amendola, is set to make $6 million next season. A number that is far too high for his production level. According to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, Amendola will be asked to restructure his contract for the third straight season.

Here’s what Reiss had to say about the contract situation for Amendola.

"The Patriots have a significant free-agent crop, which technically should also include receiver Danny Amendola, who won’t be back on his current contract, which calls for a base salary of $6 million."

Amendola has been with the Patriots for the last four seasons. 2015 was his best year in New England, as he totaled 65 receptions, 648 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns. This past season, Amendola battled injuries and was only able to play 12 games.

Due to the injuries, Amendola didn’t produce as much as he did in 2015. He was only able to total 23 receptions and 243 receiving yards. Surprisingly, Amendola was able to total a career-high of four receiving touchdowns this season.

In the Super Bowl, Amendola really shined on the biggest stage. He was key in the comeback win, as he totaled eight receptions, 78 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown.

Even though Amendola performed well in the Super Bowl, he simply isn’t worth the money he is set to make next season. With some other good receivers on the roster already, the Patriots could afford to part ways with Amendola. However, he might be willing to take a pay cut to stay and try for a repeat.
