Recent Patriots rumors have been about quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. What does Adam Schefter think will happen this offseason?

Most Patriots rumors this offseason have been about quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Due to the success of Tom Brady still, there hasn’t been a pressing need to find his successor just yet.

When Brady was suspended this season, Garoppolo played well in a game and a half. Due to his brief success, there is a lot of interest for him among teams with poor quarterback situations.

When speaking on Mike and Mike in the morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter talked about the current situation surrounding Garoppolo. Here’s what Schefter had to say.

"“There are different people in the Patriots organization that have different schools of thought there. I talked to one person a month ago who said he would be floored if they trade Jimmy Garoppolo,” Schefter said. “[But] I just think there’s going to be too much interest, and somebody’s eventually going to offer enough to pry him loose.”“There are enough teams out there with a need at the quarterback position, and there just aren’t a lot of quarterbacks out there that … I think there will be calls,” Schefter said. “And it’ll be up to some team to convince the Patriots to offer enough to want to part ways with him.”"

The Patriots are certainly holding the advantage in any possible trade negotiations. Due to multiple teams having needs at the quarterback position, the Patriots could be looking at a haul for Garoppolo like Schefter mentioned.

In the NFL Draft, there are only two quarterbacks that are projected to be going high in the first round. With no talented free agents at the position, the Patriots have one of the best quarterback options for many teams.

If a team comes in with an offer of a first and mid-round pick for Garoppolo, that might be enough to get a deal done. With a lot of free agents of their own, New England likely wouldn’t mind getting a few extra picks this offseason.
