The New England Patriots will be playing in the Super Bowl for the ninth time in a few weeks. What were the best performances in their Super Bowl history?

The New England Patriots are getting set to take part in their NFL record ninth Super Bowl on February 5 in Houston, TX. That means that they have been in nearly twenty percent of all of the Big Games played since Super Bowl I on January 15, 1967.

With all of their history on the game’s biggest stage, we take a look at the top five Super Bowl performances by individual Patriots through the years. As quarterback Tom Brady would say, “Let’s GOOOOO!”

#5 CB Ty Law, Super Bowl XXXVI: 8 tackles, 2 PD, 1INT, 1TD

In the Super Bowl that began a legendary run of professional football dominance, Patriots cornerback Ty Law turned in one of the greatest championship game performances by a defensive back.

Tasked with covering the explosive St. Louis Rams WRs Tory Holt and Isaac Bruce, Law was able to help New England’s secondary limit Holt to five catches for 49 yards and Bruce to five catches for 56 yards, taking away two of the great offensive weapons on the Great Show on Turf.

The Patriots defensive game plan was stout against the Rams, and a heavy blitz forced Rams quarterback Kurt Warner to loft an intended pass to Bruce, which sailed high and behind him, and landed into Law’s arms for an interception he took back 47 yards for a game-changing touchdown. The Patriots took a 7-3 lead at that point and they never looked back. Law added eight tackles and two passes defends to finish off a seminal moment in Patriots history.

Law’s return to the end zone, his right arm raised with a high five, is in an iconic image in Patriots postseason lore.
