#5. January 10, 2004 New England Patriots 17 Tennessee Titan 14

The Patriots number one overall defense continued their run of “Homeland Defense” against the Titans and NFL Co-MVP Steve McNair in one of the coldest games in NFL playoff history.

With temperatures reaching 4 °F, New England was able to withstand the conditions and the Titans while relying on another game-winning field goal by kicker Adam Vinatieri. The Titans had one last gasp as they were able to drive down into New England territory, but on 4th and 12, wide receiver Drew Bennett dropped a sure first down to seal the win for the Patriots.

New England would go on to defeat the other Co-MVP, Peyton Manning, and the Indianapolis Colts the following week in the AFC Championship game 24-14 and then win Super Bowl XXXVIII 32-29 over the Carolina Panthers.

The 2003 Patriots lay claim to being arguably the greatest team in franchise history.
