New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is going to be one of the hottest head coaching candidates this offseason. Will he actually leave New England?

With the NFL season coming to a close, the New England Patriots will be monitoring the status of their offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Due to the success of the Patriots, their coordinators are being talked about as two possibilities to become head coaches elsewhere next season.

With a few teams already having vacancies, there are going to be a good number of head coaching jobs available this offseason. One of the most popular names is McDaniels. This season, McDaniels has been calling the plays for one of the best offenses in the league. Even without Tom Brady for the first four games of the season, the Patriots were able to have a 3-1 record.

Much of the reason for their success was because of the play of their two backup quarterbacks. Both Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett were able to get wins as the starting quarterbacks for the Patriots. In the NFL, winning with a backup quarterback is an extremely difficult thing to do, and a lot of credit has to go to the Patriots coaching staff, including McDaniels.

According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, McDaniels will have his choice of where he wants to coach next season. While nothing has been confirmed that McDaniels would indeed leave New England, Volin appears to believe that he will be coaching elsewhere next season.

Since he was just 25-years-old, Josh McDaniels has been a member of the New England Patriots coaching staff. At the age of 30, McDaniels became the offensive coordinator for the Patriots. After three successful years as the offensive coordinator, McDaniels went on to coach the Denver Broncos.

As the head coach of the Broncos, McDaniels totaled a 11-17 record. In his second season as the head coach, McDaniels would find his way back to New England. In 2012, he served as their offensive coordinator once again.
