LB Jamie Collins – this writer is sticking with his early prediction that Collins will win Defensive Player of the Year. He’s scary good.

LB Dont’a Hightower – the eyes, ears and brains of the Patriots’ defense; the Tedy Bruschi of his generation, and not just because he wears No. 54.

LB Barkevious Mingo – tall and lanky at 6-foot-4, Mingo also possesses blazing speed and seems to be a perfect fit in New England.

3 things we liked about Barkevious Mingo in preseason finale

LB Jonathan Freeny – recently given a contract extension, Freeny is evidently adored by the coaching staff because of his strong work ethic and dependability.

LB Kamu Grugier-Hill – impressed as a gunner in the preseason finale, slamming into the Giants punt returner on one occasion, delivering a loud pop. Grugier-Hill is intriguing to say the least and will be given chances to contribute.
