Predicting New England Patriots roster, cut day edition
Next: Defensive line
DE Jabaal Sheard – the top dog at defensive end with Chandler Jones out of the picture.
DE Chris Long – the sure-fire No. 2 defensive end now that Rob Ninkovich has been suspended for the first four games of the season.
DE Shea McClellin – figures to be an intriguing gadget for Bill Belichick to play around with throughout the front seven.
DE Trey Flowers – made up for a lost rookie year by bringing it this preseason; stands to edge out fellow 2015 draft pick Geneo Grissom for the final defensive end slot.
Preseason Week 4 likes/dislikes: D.J. Foster
DT Malcom Brown – a rising star if there ever was one, Brown takes over the top defensive tackle job in 2016.
DT Alan Branch – don’t get spooked about about Branch’s preseason suspension, the veteran always has his troubles in the summer (conditioning, attitude, etc.). He’s still a solid interior lineman.
DT Vincent Valentine – big, athletic and young; an Akiem Hicks-type guy.
DT Anthony Johnson – career revived, Johnson makes the Patriots roster as a heartwarming story after two tough years in the league.
DT Markus Kuhn – the Pats go with a fifth defensive tackle in a measure to sure-up the interior in 2015.
