For every addition to the roster, you have to turn your thinking 180 degrees and realize the bottom-dweller who will be adversely affected. In this case, it is Grissom who finds himself in hot water now that Mingo is in the picture. It wouldn’t be unheard of for the Pats to cut a guy they just traded for, but it is pretty unlikely, which renders Grissom’s status on the roster questionable.

In comparison to fellow sophomore defensive end Flowers, Grissom has been a bit of a yawn-inducer during training camp. He hasn’t stood out as much as Flowers, and it’s hard to see him leapfrogging over Long on the depth chart, so Grissom stands behind Sheard, Long, McClellin, Flowers and now Mingo. So don’t be surprised if Grissom’s name appears on the transaction news in the coming weeks.
