This doesn’t take too much thought. Edelman is the best wideout on the Patriots’ roster; he possesses insane quickness and cutting ability, traits which will help him get open for Garoppolo in the midst of game day chaos. Knock on wood that Edelman stays healthy through the remainder of the preseason so that Jimmy G has Tom Brady’s favorite target at his disposal for Week 1 in the Arizona desert.

Julian Edelman dominates Bears in practice

More often than not, Edelman will be the first look in Garoppolo’s progression of reads. With the way Edelman has been cutting up the practice field this summer, he should have no trouble getting open. If he does, that will most likely mean that the defense is allocating additional resources toward covering Edelman, and that means Garoppolo will have an open man somewhere else. In other words, Edelman brings benefit in several forms.
