2. Devin Lucien and DeAndre Carter are next to go.

With that in mind, it looks like Lucien and Carter are the next wideouts who will get cut. Lucien drew the Patriots’ attention after barely ever dropping the ball in college, and his athletic frame and size at 6-foot-2 was also attractive to a largely undersized Pats receiving corps. But Lucien hasn’t shown all that well this preseason, and there just isn’t room for him on the final roster. However, a spot on the practice squad is possible.

Pessimistic, optimistic and realistic projections for Devin Lucien in 2016

Speaking of the practice squad, Carter looks like a lock to be part of that group, which for a 5-foot-8 wide receiver in the NFL is pretty good. Carter is fast and sure-handed, and the Patriots will certainly want to keep him in the building, as he fits the Edelman/Amendola underneath slot role. You wouldn’t want Carter splitting out wide and hauling in jump balls, but he could be a good depth option to have in the event that Edelman or Amendola miss extended time in 2016.
