1. The Pats want a pass catching No. 3 tight end.

When Pascoe stuck his nose in the Patriots’ tight end competition this summer, he did so with the intent of standing out from the group with his blocking ability. Pascoe is not known for catching balls; he has only 40 career receptions in six journeyman seasons. However, he is a proven blocker and that’s pretty much why the Patriots considered him this preseason.

However, now that Pascoe is out of the picture, the Patriots are left with four tight ends who can’t be classified as blocking specialists, indicating that Bill Belichick wants that No. 3 guy to be just as capable at stepping into the aerial attack as Gronk and Bennett. Should an injury hit either one of those two (let’s hope not), the idea is that a Derby, a Harbor, or even a Scheu or Williams could take on a larger role in the offense and there wouldn’t be a hitch.

Who do you think will fill out the tight end depth chart at the No. 3 spot?
