Forming the absolute worst New England Patriots roster

Nate Ebner Patriots roster

Safeties (5): Cedric Thompson, Vinnie Sunseri, Jordan Richards, Brandon King, Nate Ebner

Cut: Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, Duron Harmon

The Patriots could really muck with their pass defense by cutting one of the best free safeties in the league, McCourty, as well as one of the more underrated members of the Patriots roster, Chung.

Look, both Ebner and King are excellent special teamers, but they are not the guys you want starting at the two safety spots. The same goes for Thompson and Sunseri.

More impact in 2016: Amendola or Hogan?

Out of the group of five that make the worst incarnation of the Patriots’ current roster, Richards is the best in terms of actual coverage and overall safety ability. The sophomore pro didn’t get much of a chance to prove himself in 2016; maybe that will change this year if injuries arise.

For the record, we’re not going to carry this exercise for the specialists, because the Patriots do not have a backup kicker, punter, etc. and it would be a bit of overkill. You get the idea.
