Nate Washington Patriots roster

Wide receivers (5): Nate Washington, Chris Harper, Devin Lucien, DeAndre Carter, Keshawn Martin

Cut: Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Malcolm Mitchell, Chris Hogan, Aaron Dobson

This would probably be the absolute worst receiving corps in the league if the Patriots roster actually shook out like this. Washington is a 33-year-old on the decline who the Patriots signed to what clearly is a bubble contract; Harper is a promising but largely unproven and slightly undersized pass catcher; Lucien has probably been the worst receiver at training camp; Carter stands at 5-foot-8 and can’t do the Edelman/Amendola roles by himself; Martin was a bright spot in 2016, but nothing earth-shaking.

3 reasons why WRs will be key to Patriots’ success in 2016

Meanwhile, the Patriots would part ways with the five players this writer thinks should make the actual final Patriots roster: Edelman, Amendola, Mitchell, Hogan, Dobson.

Let’s hope that some mind-bending disease does not overtake Bill Belichick in the coming weeks so we aren’t left with this group of wide receivers on the Patriots rosters.
