3. Donald Brown/Tyler Gaffney
These two are grouped together because they are fighting for essentially the same slot on the Week 1 roster. It is looking increasingly likely that Dion Lewis will start the year on the PUP list, which will open a roster spot behind LeGarrette Blount, James White, Brandon Bolden and James Develin. In fact, there may even be a sixth spot in the backfield depending on how the Patriots balance the roster.
Musket Fire Roundtable: Training Camp Week 2
Reports out of camp indicate that Gaffney is running hard, and that comes as no surprise, as Gaffney has been afflicted with the summer injury bug two years in a row (which has wiped out his first two regular seasons). So yes, Gaffney is chomping at the bit. On the other hand, Brown is a proven commodity, a dependable veteran who is eager to right the ship after a few lackluster seasons with the San Diego Chargers. These two will be duking it out all preseason.
