Linebackers (4): Jamie Collins, Dont’a Hightower, Shea McClellin, Kamu Grugier-Hill

Practice squad: Rufus Johnson, Elandon Roberts

Cut: Jonathan Freeny, Ramon Humber, Kevin Snyder

It’s not entirely clear how the Patriots are going to use McClellin, but for the purposes of this article, we’re going to label him a linebacker and place him onto the final 53-man roster through that medium. Grugier-Hill, who’s having a strong camp thus far, stands a good chance to unseat incumbent depth linebacker/special teamer Freeny.

Meanwhile, Johnson makes the practice squad because his physical tools (length and speedy, namely) are too tempting for the Patriots to pass on; after all, Johnson appeared in a game last year before a nasty sickness ended his season. Roberts, who led the FBS in solo tackles as a senior at Houston, also squeezes onto the practice squad. He’s having a solid camp.
