Tight ends (3): Rob Gronkowski, Martellus Bennett, A.J. Derby

Practice squad: Bryce Williams

Cut: Steven Scheu, Clay Harbor

Last week’s roster prediction had Harbor on the active roster, but Derby has been the one actually been practicing. Undrafted rookie Williams has been making nice catches in traffic; a practice squad spot may be in his future. However, fellow undrafted Scheu doesn’t appear to be on that course.

5 things to know about the Saints during joint practices

Keep in mind that the Patriots might decide to use the No. 3 tight end spot different by not even having a third tight end. For example, Develin or Iosefa may be able to fill the need of a run blocking specialist. If Michael Williams hadn’t suffered a torn ACL in the offseason, the No. 3 tight end role would be perfect for the former offensive lineman. If the Patriots decide to take on a sixth corner, or a sixth receiver or a sixth running back, we could see just Gronk and Bennett representing the tight end position on the final roster.
