3. Nick Fairley is a veteran to watch on the defensive line.

While it is true that Fairley’s first five years in the league haven’t gone as planned (run-ins with the law, nagging injuries), the former Detroit Lion posted a career-high 63 tackles with the (then St. Louis) Rams last season. By coming to New Orleans, Fairley is moving closer to home. As noted by Rod Walker of the New Orleans Advocate, Fairley’s new team is located just a few hours drive on Interstate 10 from his hometown of Mobile, Alabama.

Ranking the Patriots’ interior defensive linemen

Going up against Fairley will be a good benchmark of Joe Thuney’s progress thus far through a few weeks of training camp. Thuney has been the Patriots’ best offensive linemen so far in camp, so keep an eye on how he performs against Fairley. Additionally, David Andrews, Shaq Mason, Josh Kline and Ted Karras will be working against the sixth-year pro.
