Finally, there is second-year rookie undrafted free agent DeAndre Carter competing for a spot at wide receiver. He is just five-foot-eight and 190 pounds and has worked almost exclusively at the slot wide receiver position. The diminutive wide receiver from Sacramento State is likely to be a developmental slot option at best. He would have to duplicate Harper’s strong summer last year just to latch onto the practice squad.

What Tom Brady’s suspension means for Jacoby Brissett

Carter has been doing well in camp by taking advantage of his opportunities for the increased reps he likely would have missed if all the receivers were healthy. He has shown flashes of explosiveness and quickness multiple times in camp and having spent part of last year on the practice squad in New England has helped him understanding the offense.

Carter is likely destined for the practice squad again unless he explodes and beats out Lucien, Harper, Washington, and Martin in preseason.
