Cornerbacks (5): Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, Cyrus Jones, E.J. Biggers, Darryl Roberts
Practice squad: Justin Coleman, Jonathan Jones
Cut: Cre’von Leblanc, V’Angelo Bentley
Butler, Ryan and the Patriots’ initial 2016 NFL Draft selection look to be the roster locks out of this group. Jones ought to find a home in the slot as the Patriots’ nickel corner. After those three, Biggers and Roberts will occupy the remaining spots. The veteran Biggers, who is tall at 6-foot and also versatile with the ability to play safety, had his best year as a pro in 2015 with the Philadelphia Eagles; Roberts was a major storyline in Patriots training camp last year before tragically breaking his wrist in a preseason game.
Despite being a serviceable No. 3 corner for the Pats last season, Coleman gets placed on the practice squad to start the year; so does blazing fast undrafted rookie Jones, the Auburn product. The other two undrafted rookies, Leblanc and Bentley, will have to look elsewhere for work before August is over.
