Running backs (4): LeGarrette Blount, Dion Lewis, James White, Brandon Bolden

Fullback (1): James Develin

Practice squad: D.J. Foster

Cut: Joey Iosefa, Donald Brown, Tyler Gaffney

A healthy Lewis will mean that the Patriots will carry the same stable of running backs on their 53-man roster this year as they did in 2015. Blount is the thunder, and Lewis and White are the lightning. Bolden is the durable, dependable special teamer and occasional change-of-pace ball carrier. Not to be forgotten is Develin, who ought to beat out sophomore pro Iosefa for the power back role behind Blount.

6 reasons to be excited for Patriots’ training camp

You see that Foster is slated to make the practice squad, and that would certainly be an accomplishment for the undrafted rookie. Foster is more deserving of a chance to stick around in New England and development than veterans Brown and Gaffney; Brown hasn’t been the same player since leaving the Indianapolis Colts, and Gaffney is as injury prone as a skeleton.
