Of course, Lewis would top this list in a heartbeat if his health wasn’t a concern. But the fact that Lewis is starting Patriots training camp on the PUP list indicates that he isn’t fully ready to be the same impactful player he was for the Patriots before tragedy struck on that afternoon against the Washington Redskins.

White filled-in for Lewis pretty well last season, but a new year means new competition. Foster will be breathing down White’s neck, as he is a promising undrafted rookie with virtually nothing to lose (if the Pats cut him, Foster will land with another team). You can’t forget about Brown, either, but he has digressed in recent years with the San Diego Chargers.

If Lewis emerges healthy at the end of Patriots training camp, he will be at the top of this group. But until then…
