5. Competition at quarterback.

While we are on the quarterback subject, another reason to be excited for the training camp festivities is the prospect of a very heated competition between Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett. Yes, it is more than likely that Garoppolo will get the starting nod in Week 1, but never count out an upstart rookie with mobility, a strong arm and accuracy.

What we are really going to see is the beginning of an elongated period of consideration and deliberation on the part of Bill Belichick and the Patriots’ brass as to whom will take over the quarterbacking reins once Brady retires.

Garoppolo’s contract runs out after the 2017 season; the Patriots will have a HUGE decision to make at that juncture in time. Does Brady have another year or two left? Is Brissett starting material? Has Jimmy G proved himself in four seasons? There are plenty of questions left to answer, and 2016 training camp will serve as the leaping-off point for those discussions.
