Training camp is slowly approaching, which means Patriots football is finally almost back. Here is today’s dose of news out of Foxboro in the meantime…

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Patriots have signed offensive tackle Kyler Kerbyson.

Via Nick O’Malley of Mass Live:

"On Friday, the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson reported that the Patriots had signed offensive tackle Kyler Kerbyson, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Tennessee. After releasing two players on Thursday and signing Kerbyson Friday, the Patriots now have 88 players out of the maximum of 90 on their roster. It’s likely that the Patriots come out with a couple more deals to fill out those spots in the coming days as players begin to report on Wednesday, July 27."

It’s that time of the year where teams have to fill out their roster before camp, and that is all this signing is. The Patriots have a lot of depth along the offensive line right now, so I doubt Kerbyson will make the final roster come September.

For the first time ever, both of Bill Belichick’s sons are officially on the coaching staff.

From Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston:

"Now, in a reminder of how time has passed and how the football business is extending to the next generation of Belichicks, both sons are officially full-time staff members with the Patriots — Steve in his first year as safeties coach and Brian as a scouting assistant."

Of the many perks that come with having the greatest coach of all time on your side, this is certainly one of the better ones. Knowing that you will have generations of Belichicks on the sidelines helping your team is a great comfort, even knowing that none of them will ever become the coach their father was.
