Today’s dose of Patriots news has us talking about a former Patriot, who tore up the record books while he was here, but also let a Super Bowl slip through his hands…

Apparently former Patriot Wes Welker isn’t a fan of speaking to former coaches after he has parted ways with that team.

Henry McKenna of Boston.com:

"On 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Toucher and Rich Show” on Tuesday, the hosts asked Welker when he last spoke to the Patriots head coach, and at first, he struggled to remember.“I spoke with him probably right before I signed with Denver [in 2013],” Welker said.So the last time Welker spoke with his former head coach was when he was with the Patriots?“Yeah,” Wes Welker said, adding later, “I don’t see really any reason to.”"

A lot of Pats fans have a lot of animosity towards Welker, but I am not one of those people. I will never, EVER forgive him for dropping that pass in Super Bowl 46, but he made so many other incredible plays while he was with the team, it is hard to really stay mad at him.

He is the greatest pure slot receiver of all time, and while he was with New England, they had two of the most dominating offenses the game will ever see (2007, 2011), and his presence in the slot was a huge reason why.

As for him not speaking with Belichick since 2013, I really don’t think this is a big story. He left the Pats for a rival, so obviously there wouldn’t be reason to talk to him then, and after that, do you really think any former player wants to talk to someone like Belichick?

I really don’t see it.

With all of that said, I’m pretty sure Welker spoke with Belichick multiple times on the field when the Patriots and Broncos have met up over the last few years, so it is possibly Welker isn’t remember everything correctly with all of those concussions he has racked up.
